When GP Instruments was looking for acquisition
candidates we wanted to find a company that had a good reputation, useful
technology and was known in the marketplace. Alcott Chromatography fit these
requirements. We were happy to be able to acquire Alcott Chromatography from
Micromeritics, Inc in the Spring of 2008.
Alcott Autosamplers are
workhorses in the laboratory with some of our customers using them around the
clock. Our basic design is available in many configurations depending on your
needs but all of those configurations are based on two basic approaches to
autosampling.
Our Model 709 variation is based on a positive
displacement approach to getting samples from your vial to your instrument. The
basics of how positive displacement with in vial filtering works are illustrated
in a video we put together, You can see it
here.
Positive displacement involves no syringes, works with various viscosities and
can include the in-vial filtering step. How in-vial filtering compares to hand
filtering and how viscosity can effect the autosampler can be found in these
application briefs:
Our Model 719 is based on using a precision syringe to draw
sample from the vial and send it to your instrument. The use of a syringe allows
us to add additional steps to a procedure so that we can provide rinse,
reconsititution, and dilution. When properly configured the Model 719 will
provide the lowest carry over between injections. This is a must for LC/MS. Data
supporting this claim can be seen in these presentations:
